James F. LaRoque passed away on June 14, 2026, at the age of 94. He will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his devotion to family, and the kindness he shared with everyone who knew him.
Born on February 6, 1932, James proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War before beginning a long career as a welder. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.
In his free time, James enjoyed walking, playing pool, dancing to country music, and painting. His faith was an important part of his life, and he found fellowship and spiritual strength through attending Southern Baptist church services in South Florida.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 34 years, Sona Lee LaRoque; his, sister Dipsy, brother Clement, his grandson, Jamie LaRoque; granddaughter, Crystal Henley and great grandson, Joey Furman.
He is survived by his sister Sandra Wheeler as well as his five children: Debra Fox and her husband, Roger; Kenneth LaRoque; Tanya Sanford; Bruce LaRoque and his wife, Johnna; and Teri LaRoque. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Joy Dowling and her husband, Chris; and his stepson, Allan Elliott and his wife, Julie. As well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
James was a proud grandfather to twelve grandchildren: Joe Holloway; Brian Holloway and his wife, Amanda; Chad LaRoque and his wife, Jessica; Mark Sanford; Lindsey Girard and her husband, Paul; Justin LaRoque; Jordan Dowling; Joshua Dowling and his wife, Lori; Lyndsey Dowling; Callie Jo Elliott; Robert Allan Elliott; and Brady Elliott. He was also blessed with 21 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
Family was James's greatest treasure. He loved spending time with those he held dear and created memories that will be cherished for generations. His warm smile, gentle spirit, and love of life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Though he is no longer with us, the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the memories he leaves behind will remain forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at North's Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at North's Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Stag Creek Cemetery.
