Obituary

James Johnson ("J.J.") Stanfield died Tuesday September 29 2008 at the age of 95. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday at Crescent Heights Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday 6:00-7:30 P.M. at North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange Street. James was born in Woodward Texas on March 24 1913 to James Nathaniel and Rosie Mae Stanfield and spent his early life in Coleman County. It was there that he met and married his wife of 66 years Emma ("Daisy") May Stanfield on May 25 1932. In 1936 James moved his family to Vista California where he worked in an aircraft factory before and during World War II. He returned to Texas in 1948 and farmed in Coleman and Runnells Counties prior to moving to Abilene in 1954. He retired from James Gravel Co. in 1975. James was a deacon and charter member of Crescent Heights Baptist Church his church home for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Emma May Stanfield who passed away in 1999. Survivors include one sister Catherine Noblett of Mena Arkansas; four children Charlotte Dutton of Orlando Florida; Joyce Tekell of Casper Wyoming; Betty Ower of Big Bear California; and James I.
