James Newell Turner, 93, of Abilene, Texas died on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 and entered back into the arms of his parents and family who have gone before him. A Service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 2:00p.m. in North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange Street. George Price Jr. is officiating. Graveside Services will be on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. in The City of Levelland Cemetery in Levelland, Texas with burial to follow. James was born September 16, 1921 in Eureka, Kansas to A.K. Turner and Ophelia (Bertie) Phillips Turner. At birth, Jim was the third child of twelve born into the A.K. Turner family; five brothers and six sisters of which only two survive him. Jim lived in Winfield, Kansas at a young age before his family moved to Abilene and Hamlin, Texas. They eventually settled in Coahoma, Texas where he was a star football player and basketball player, as well as being voted class favorite before graduating Coahoma High School. He then attended Texas Tech College before joining the United States Army Air Corps in 1942 and became a 2nd Lieutenant and was a Tail Gunner and flew B-24 Liberators. He was later stationed in England, his final tour of duty before returning to the States to marry his fiancé, Jane (Janey) Eleanor Easton in Topeka, Kansas on June 30, 1945. From there they moved to Takoma, Washington to finish the remainder of his service. When he was honorably discharged in August, 1945 they returned to Coahoma to begin their civilian lives. After three years there, co-owning and operating a water hauling and pulling unit business, Jim was hired by Stanolind Oil Company, later named Amoco in Sundown. He, Janey and their first born son, Kenny moved to Levelland, Texas. A couple of years later they had their daughter, Becky. Jim worked for Amoco for Thirty Eight years beginning as a roustabout and retiring as a Measurement Technologist. He also invented and designed a measurement sight scope used for checking oil well content production that is still being used today by many oil companies. Jim has always been a methodist and was always very active in Levelland's First United Methodist Church for the duration of time they lived there. He was also a lifelong member of Levelland Masonic Lodge and was a Boy Scout Master when their son, Kenny was a Boy Scout. He and his wife Janey were also active with their children's square dance club, as well as their own adult square dance club. Jim was a perfectionist who enjoyed projects of all kinds, especially those in his own backyard. He loved gardening, repairing and maintaining his own cars and later playing with his grandchildren, whom he loved very much. He enjoyed fishing, camping and long walks with his family. Jim loved his family and was always so proud of each one of their accomplishments. After forty seven years of marriage, his wife Janey passed away. Three years went by and he contacted Majken (Micky) Walker whom he had met fifty years ago while he was serving in Kings Lynn, England. They rekindled their relationship; she came to the United States they were married November 11, 1995 on Veterans Day. Jim and Micky were volunteers for Meals on Wheels until health issues prevented them from doing so. In September 2011, they moved to University Place Retirement Home, to be near his daughter, Becky. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janey, his son, Dr. Kenneth (Kenny) Turner, four of his brothers, Alex Turner Jr., Dennis Turner, John Turner and George Turner, five of his sisters, Dorothy Young, Norma Grant, Emma Lee Chapman, Bernice Carter and Sue Sheedy. Jim is survived by his wife Micky Turner, his daughter Becky and her husband Ronnie Nail of Abilene, Texas, grandchildren Melissa (Rick) Muller of Southlake, Texas, David (Mandi) Kinney,of Graham, Texas, Three great-grandsons, Riley Albus, Kolton and Karson Kinney. A sister Mary Jo Stoker, a brother Bill Turner, Three step-sons and their wives ,Robert and Jenny Walker, Gary and Trudy Walker, Stephen and Pauline Walker all from England, and numerous nieces & nephews & many friends. The family would like to give Special Thanks to all the doctors and nurses who cared for Jim at Abilene Regional Medical Center, Reliant Rehabilitation, Mesa Springs Health Care & Hendrick Hospice.
