Obituary

J.C. Brooker 92 of Abilene passed away Sunday March 30 2008. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday with Jared Owens officiating at North's Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Midway Cemetery under the direction of North's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange St. He was born September 16 1915 in Talpa Texas to Jay and Clara Bell Brooker. At the age of sixteen he joined Mudcreek Baptist Church where he was baptized. He married Ima Gene Conger April 3 1947 in Coleman Texas. He retired from the State Highway Department in 1977. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. While during his stay he received the following medals: Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star Good Conduct Medal and Victory Ribbon. He also received one service stripe and five overseas service bars. He was preceded in death by his parents; Jay and Clara Jackson Brooker; Four sisters Edith Prestage Fay Smith Edna Blyue Nona Tenny; two brothers Irvin Brooker and Alvin Brooker; Two Step Sons Jerry Bryan and Clark Bryan He is survived by his wife Ima Gene Brooker; One Son Joe Brooker wife Mary Lou; Three Daughters; Sherri Owens husband Curtis Charlene Soto husband Leo Claire Knapp and husband Joe; two sisters; Naomi Gozart and Velma Hollis; One brother Lee Roy Brooker and; Seventeen Grandchildren and Thirty Great Grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks for the care and support given by Hendrick Hospice.
