Jewell Allean Cobb was born July 15th, 1926 in Idabel, Oklahoma to Jessie Reed and Ben Cobb. Her mother, Jessie Reed, passed away after giving birth, when Jewell was only two years old, leaving both, her father and elder sister, Florence Cobb (James) to raise her. At a young age she began to cook and soon worked the cotton fields amongst her elder siblings. She went to school and graduated from Slater Rosen Wald High School, then attended college at Langston University in Oklahoma, receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Child Education. She then went forth and taught at an elementary school. Following her elder sister, Florence, she left Oklahoma to Colorado where she met and eventually married William Jr. Renfro. They all moved to Abilene, Texas, and through her sister (Florence), she was introduced to Sterling Childers. Soon afterwards, she began to work for them in their home. Sometime later, she was employed at the Abilene State School where she became supervisor, and she continued thereafter, working both jobs; for the Childers and at ABSS. She gave birth in 1953, 54, and 55 to three boys, but after many years of being married to William, her marriage ultimately ended in divorce, leaving her to raise the three boys alone. In 1970, she married Sammy Telford, who her two younger sons took too, immediately. But tragically in 1972, her two youngest sons: Both, Michael and Curtis Renfro were killed in a car accident on the fourth of July, while on their way to Ft. Phantom. They were only 16 and 17 yrs. old. In 1973, she was given hope again, when her eldest and then, only son, Jerry Glenn and his wife Brenda Renfro gave birth to a baby girl and her first grandchild. But that lasted only two years before she was left again to bury her newest husband, Sammy who died in 1970 to diabetes. She was left a widow but she continued working at the Abilene State School and retired after 22yrs. She later retired from working for the Childers after serving almost 30yrs. She faithfully attended Morning Star Baptist Church under the direction of Pastor Joe Jackson for over 30yrs. There at the church, she served as many things. She was a Sunday school teacher for the adults and a very good speaker. She was a member of the Mission in the church, she was an usher in the church and she sang in the church choir. She loved teaching and she was consistent in picking up all of the children who attended the church, so that they could be brought and taught in the church. Her life was centered around God, the church and her family. But she also taught at home. Every evening on her bed she taught Bible lessons to and read many stories from her Family Bible to three young girls. More importantly, she taught with love and spent her entire life giving back what God had given to her. Helping those who needed her most and loving so many. She would always say, "God first, others second, and me, last." She was born amongst Thirteen siblings; 12 of which are siblings and one baby girl (Jessie Cobb Kershaw, a niece), was raised alongside of her, whom she loved and cared for dearly. She is survived by One brother: Bennie Cobb; One sister: Opal T., both of Oklahoma; Five grandchildren. Three granddaughters: Lagale Renea Renfro Brunson Koko and husband Adebambo Ismael Koko, of Abilene; Michelle LaCole Renfro, of Denton, Tx.; Arianna Jane Belin Couch, of Cisco, Tx,; Two grandsons: Michael Curtis Renfro, of Abilene, Tx.; and Steven J.W. Avery Renfro, of Cisco, Tx.; Ten great grandchildren: Roy Johnson, III, Tiara Renfro, Jatorrianne Harris, Christianne Brunson, Ciara Brunson, Shadayshia Harris, Deonte Harris, Nehemiah, Malachai, and Kaleihya Renfro, all of Abilene. She is preceded in death by Three Children: Jerry Glenn, Curtis Lee, and Michael Renfro; Her Husband, Sammy Telford; A Granddaughter, Terri Lynn Harris; Her father, Ben Cobb; Her mother, Jessie Reed; Eight Brothers: A.D., W.L., Doc, Sam, David, Harold Cobb, Nathaniel and Sir Clifton Cobb; and Two Sisters: Florence James and Hazel Cobb.
