Joe Earl Appleby, age 68, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025. Born on September 7, 1957, in Abilene, Joe was the beloved son of Mozell Williams and Arthur Appleby. Joe was a proud graduate of Abilene High School, class of 1976. Shortly after graduation, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army in July of 1976. With a steadfast heart and deep commitment, he re-enlisted in January of 1991 to serve in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Later in life, Joe made his home in Oklahoma, where he lived out his days with quiet strength and enduring pride in his service. A man of many passions, Joe found joy in antiques, classic cars, sports, photography and fishing. He had a special talent for cooking and took great pride in preparing meals that brought his family together. Above all, Joe cherished spending time with his loved ones and creating lasting memories with his children and grandchildren. He leaves behind his loving daughters, Myesia Williams- Harris, Ashley Appleby, and Tobee Appleby; his devoted brothers, Jerry Miller, Arthur Miller, Greg Appleby, and Larry Appleby; and his dear sister, Alice Miller- Hawkins; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe was a proud grandfather to Malayesia Harris, Terri Beaufort, Darius Harris, Jeshari Houston, Blake Burleson, and America Wooden, and cherished great-grandfather to Kailani, Amiya, and Kashia. He is also remembered fondly by his aunt, Doris Appleby, and his uncle, Skookey Taylor. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Molly Appleby; his son, Alexander Appleby; his parents, Mozell Williams and Arthur Appleby; his granddaughter, America Wooden; and his aunt, Cheryll Fitzgerald. Joe's life was a living testament to service, family, and faith. His strength, warmth, and spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
