Obituary

Joe Mack Mims was born on October 19, 1953, in Abilene, Texas. He attended Cooper High School, and went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin. He lived in his home state for most of his life between the cities of Austin and Abilene. He also spent time on the west coast in Los Angeles, California. He passed away on January 12, 2024 in his hometown. While in Abilene, he loved hanging out at Heff's and El Chicos after work. His love of sports involved talking to his friends there about the Cowboys, the Houston Astros and Baylor's chances of making the college football playoffs. His favorite places to eat, however, were Betty Roses BBQ and Taco Bueno. You rarely saw him without a Coke in his hand; the sugar keeping him going through the day where worked at Dillard's. For almost two decades he greeted customers and adorned their feet in The Shoe Department. He closely followed the weather, and could tell what cold fronts were coming through and why. His favorite TV shows were Sci-fi, in particular the popular Dr. Who series. His pride and joy was his beloved dog, Alfie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill Mims, Sr. and Clarine Mims, his sister Lana Chambers (Bill), and his brother Bill Mims, Jr. (Deborah). He is survived by his niece Michelle Mims, and nephews Bill Mims III, Brett Chambers, and Marcus Chambers. Services will be held at North's Funeral Home on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, we ask those attending the service consider making a donation towards the funeral costs to help us honor the loss of Joe Mack.
