Obituary

Joe B. Vargas of Abilene passed away Saturday, March 28, 2026. Visitation will be held Monday, April 6, 2026, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at North's Funeral Home. With a rosary starting a 6:00PM. Funeral Services will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church April 7, 2026 at 10AM. Joe was born September 12, 1938 in Rural, TX to Ysabel Vargas and Josephina Vargas. Joe received his primary education from Tulia High school and graduated in 1955. He married Maria De Jesus Leija in 1968 in Aurora, Illinois. Joe was a member of St. Francis Church since 1983 to present. Followed religious orders. Joe B. Vargas, a proud retiree of the City of Abilene, lived life with a joyful spirit and a great sense of humor. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and never missed a chance to enjoy a good wrestling match. Joe had a creative soul and loved making crafts, especially wind chimes. He found happiness in the simple pleasures playing bingo, tending to his garden, listening to music, and sharing laughter with those around him. He had a sweet tooth, often enjoying cookies with his favorite drink, a refreshing glass of lemonade. Joe will be remembered for his playful nature, his love for life, and the way he could always bring a smile to others. Joe B. Vargas was preceded in death by Father Ysabel Vargas, brother Paul Vargas, wife Mary L Vargas, sister Isabel Sandoval, daughter Virginia Del Los Santos, and mother Josephina Gonzalez. Left to cherish his memories are brother Vincent Vargas, sister Dora May, Daughters; Rosa Rodriguez, Mary Christine Leija. Grandchildren; Ezekiel Rodriguez, Gena Rodriguez, Miranda G Torres, Eliseo R. Garza, Alejandro S. Valero, Isaiah Del Los Santos, Johnathon Del Los Santos, Devin Del Los Santos,21 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Online Condolences may be made at www.northsfuneralhome.com
