John L. Altman, 80, of Abilene, entered heaven surrounded by his loving family on March 17, 2018 in Abilene. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. John never met a stranger and impacted the lives of everyone he met. John was born in Ballinger, Texas to H.L. Altman and Doris Altman on December 30, 1937. He lived in California for 28 years before moving back to Abilene in 1978, where he spent over 38 years in the medical supply industry in Abilene before retiring in 2016. John, known to his family as Papa, loved spending time with his wife, daughters and their families. He enjoyed playing golf, morning coffee with friends, visiting California and Las Vegas, listening to oldies and Jimmy Buffett. John was preceded in death by his parents. John is survived by his wife of 37 years, Laura, children Dori Hale and husband Jeff, Crystal Parker and husband Matt; grandchildren Nicole Marsh and husband Brian, Jessica Frederick and husband Chris, Jennifer Hale, Melissa Hale, Rebecca Hale, Parker Harrison and Blaze Parker. Great-grandchildren are Cash Frederick, Jack and Tyler Marsh. Memorial donations may be made to Hendrick Hospice Care or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend our sincerest thanks to the medical staff of Hendrick Medical Center and Hendrick Hospice Care for their heartfelt care of John and our family. We would also like to express our deepest thanks to all of our wonderful friends and family for your tremendous support during this difficult time. A private family service is being held and a celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date.
