John Benton Vinita, 70, of Abilene went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.
John was born January 2, 1954 in Knox City, TX to loving parents Lola Sigsbee and John Vinita, and was welcomed by two older sisters. John received his GED while living in Dallas, TX. His career began as a roughneck in the oil industry, then a stint working for TxDOT, later in life returning to the gas industry before finally working in and retiring from a customer service position last year. In his spare time he loved to spend time with his cat, family, go hunting, watch the history channel, and be outdoors. He also loved a good conversation, a late night root beer float and reminiscing about good times in the past while sharing laughter along with the memories he treasured. John will be remembered for so much but especially his kind heart, caring spirit, fun sayings/southernisms and his love for his family.
John was preceded in death by his sister Johnnie Jeanette Vinita, his father John Vinita, his mother Lola Sigsbee Vinita, his loving wife Cathy Vinita, and his best friend Don Turner along with numerous beloved pets.
John is survived by: daughter, Soyya Chumley and Spouse Drew of Fort Worth, TX, sister Shirlene Hutto of Lueders, TX, Nephew James Hutto of Lueders, TX, great-nephews Audie Hutto and Rowen Hutto of Lueders, TX, Half-Sister Tammy Vinita of Columbus, Georgia, Half-Brother John R. Vinita of San Diego, California and beloved cat Nermal who will all cherish the memories we have, lessons he taught us and time we were blessed to have with him.
