John Stanley Brown, 81, of Rotan, Texas, passed away peacefully on the early morning of November 25, 2025, in Tuscola, Texas. Stan was born on December 28, 1943, in Lubbock, Texas, to the late Ray and Johnnie Brown. A lifelong scholar, he was a proud graduate of Rotan High School. He continued his academic journey at The University of Texas at Austin before earning his Juris Doctor from the prestigious University of Texas Law School, a degree that laid the foundation for his commitment to justice. Stan built a long and successful career practicing law for an impressive 55 years, serving clients in Abilene and throughout Taylor County. As a dedicated attorney, he was known for his sharp intellect and his commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards. He served his community by providing sound counsel and mentorship to countless individuals and colleagues. Outside of his professional life, Stan possessed a rich intellectual life and a love for the arts. He loved photography, traveling, ­writing, and was a lifelong student of the written word, exploring genres across the spectrum. He was a dedicated member of the Texas Bar Journal (TBJ), the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (TCDLA), and the Heavenly Rest Episcopal Church. Stan is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, Lupe Brown, of Tuscola, Texas. He is also survived by his daughter, Abbey Brown Garner, and his cherished grandson, Eli Chase Garner. Stan will be fondly remembered by his sister, Linda Murray, and his two nieces, Jennifer Murray and Carol Ricks. Memorial services will take place at the Heavenly Rest Episcopal Church, Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
