Obituary

John Edward Hoffman Jr was born on April 29, 1946, to John and Joy Hoffman in Ft Sill, Oklahoma. John passed away early Monday morning on March 3, 2025, peacefully in his Abilene, TX home. John grew up in Stillwater, Oklahoma where he graduated from C.E. Donart High School in 1964. While at Donart High School John was active in sports and particularly fell in love with baseball. After high school he joined the Air Force for 4 years where he served in the Vietnam war. During the war he was exposed to agent orange which would later lead to him becoming a disabled war veteran in his later years. After being honorably discharged he attended Oklahoma State University where he obtained his degree in Math and a master's degree in Electrical Engineering as well in 1973. After graduating he went to work for Texas Instruments where he was instrumental in developing a program to operate the HARM missile which is still used today by the military. So therefore, he was in fact a true rocket scientist. John was also a proud member of Mensa where he was ranked in the 99 th percentile of academic achievements. John is preceded in death by his parents John "Jack" Hoffman and Joy Hoffman. He is also preceded in death by his younger brother Phillip Hoffman. John was a devoted family man and is survived by his wife of 25 years, Thelma Hoffman. He is also survived by the mother of his 4 kids, Kay Alderman. He is survived by 6 children, Chris Hoffman, David Hoffman and wife Jennifer, Brenda Collins and husband Steven, Becky Allbright and husband Billy, Wendy Kennedy and husband Brian, and Christopher Todd Reader and wife Valeria. He is survived by his 10 grandchildren Julie Hoffman, Justin Collins, Noah Johnson, Brittany Hoffman, Hayden Collins, Landon Collins, Aryssa Allbright, Amanda Allen, Jamie Humphrey, and Meagan Humphrey. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, Courtney Wilson, Pieghton Allen, Lauren Humphrey, Bradley Allen, and Colton Reeves. The visitation is going to be held on Thursday March 6, 2025 at North's Funeral Home located at 242 Orange Street Abilene, TX 79601 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday March 7, 2025 at North's Funeral Home at 11:00am. A burial service will be held on Friday March 7, 2025 at The Texas State Veteran Cemetery at Abilene located at 7457 West Lake Road Abilene, TX 79601 at 1:00pm.
