John Thomas Hunter, Jr., age 58 went home to his Lord on Saturday, February 24th, 2024. Visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, March1st at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange Street in Abilene. Funeral services will be at 10am on Saturday, March 2nd at North's Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby King officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers are Frankie Tucker, Juan Gallow, Jerome Smith, Taurus Ray, Antwone Harden and Jeff Smith.
John was born on July 22nd, 1965, in Hamlin, Texas to John Thomas Hunter, Sr. and Willie Mae Hunter and lived in the Big Country area his entire life. After graduating High School, John went to work for Bandag and was with them for 40 years. John loved fishing, dancing, playing dominoes, and being at the park on Sundays with friends. He loved being called by his nickname "Papa Bear". John enjoyed hosting game nights and cooking and eating bbq, but what he loved most was being surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas Hunter, Sr. and his sister, Carol Hunter.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Willie Mae Hunter; children, Bieisha Tucker and husband Frankie, Shaquita Kershaw and husband Corwin, Juan Gallow and wife Marissa and Daniel Bray; siblings, Delores Ray, Eugenia Smith and husband Timothy Lewis, Anthony Hunter and wife Pamela Walker, Rhea Jones and husband Keith, Chad Hunter and longtime girlfriend Kim and Le Launnie Hunter; 14 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
