John Hilston Tweedie of Abilene, TX went to be with our Lord on October 10, 2024. Visitation with be Wednesday October 16, 2024 from 11:00AM- 1:00PM at North's Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held the same day starting at 1:00PM. With burial to follow at Hamby Cemetery with full military honors. John also known as "Jackie" by his Mother, was born on April 17, 1934 in Kingston, NY to Hilston Arthur Tweedie and Mildred (Thomas)Tweedie. John married Barbara Elaine Gibbons on December 12, 1953. They were only 19 years old at the time and they were happily married for 54 years. John had a passion for airplanes ever since he was a young boy and he dreamed of flying an airplane one day, which he did when he enlisted in the US Airforce at the age of 17. John was a Vietnam Veteran and retired as a Master Sergeant at Dyess Air Force Base in 1972. After retirement, John became an aircraft mechanic at American Eagle Airport. He also had his own business as an aircraft inspector. John purchased his very own aircraft, a Cessna and would fly us kids around. He also loved to fly R.C Airplanes as well. He loved to tinker and fix EVERYTHING. John also had a passion for animals as he was on the Board of Directors for the Taylor/Jones County Human Society. He loved to play Santa Claus every Christmas for the animals to come take pictures with him. John would always be willing to take on and care for any animal, but his true love was for cats! John had many different pets such as a bull, horse, pony and many other animals that he loved and cared for. John was preceded in death by his sister Jill Tweedie Eustis. His family will miss him deeply and especially his sarcasm such as his famous words "WELL DUHHHHH" to our questions LOL. John is survived by his oldest son John Jr. and Violet, Diane Pate, Linda and Rick Galetti, Sandra and Kenny Depew. Nieces: Carol Eustis, and Sheryl Eustis. Nephew: Bill Eustis. Grandchildren: Eric, April, Scotty, Cari, Michael, John, Matt, Heather and Riley. Great Grandchildren: Addison, Connor, Hudson, Lincoln, Oakley, Sailor, Makenzie, Mason, Marshall, Leighton, Lawsyn, Halston and Hayes.
