John Young 81 went home to be with his Lord on October 30 2013 after a lengthy illness with lung cancer.   A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday November 2 2013 in North's Memorial Chapel with Reverend Jeanie Williams officiating.   Burial will follow in Ross Cemetery under the direction of North's Funeral Home.   The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in North's Funeral Home 242 Orange Street.   He is the last of nine children of Ray and Annice Young.   He was born in Clyde Texas on February 11 1932.   He graduated from Eula High School and went to Cisco Junior College on a basketball scholarship.   He joined the United States Navy and served four years a Dental Technician.   After serving in the Navy he returned to Abilene and attended McMurry College where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree.   He married Doris Nell Roberts on January 12 1957.   He was a salesman for Hormel Meat Company in Abilene and was transferred to Dallas Texas where he attended Southern Methodist University to continue his studies in business.   He then became a buyer for Cullem and Boren Sporting Goods Company in Dallas.   He then moved to New Mexico where he was store manager of Universal Appliance Company in Carlsbad and then a salesman in Roswell New Mexico.   Two sons were born in New Mexico – William Adron Young of San Marcos California and Robert Stanley Young of Southerlin Oregon.   The family then moved to Riverside California where he taught school for twenty five years and was a high school golf coach.   After retiring in 1992 he returned home to Abilene where he continued his love for ranching. He belonged to the Southwest Cattleman's Association Elks Club in Riverside California for twenty five years and Sigma Iota Epsilon – an honorary management fraternity at Southern Methodist University.   He was a member of Soledad Veterans Memorial with a plaque in place in LaJolla California. He was preceded in death by his brothers Raymond Arthur and Bill and two sisters Tootsie and Frankie. Family survivors are his wife Doris Young; two sons: Adron Young and wife Bessie from San Marcos California and Stan Young and wife Frankie of Southerlin Oregon; one grandson Pierce Young of Tempe Arizona;   six step-grandchildren: Jimi Justin and Jason Foster and Kristina Jessica and Holly Shearer; two brothers Pete Young of Texarkana Texas Ben Young of Rockwall Texas; one sister Alice East of Richmond Virginia. Pallbearers are Ray Godbee Manuel Godbee Curtis Rosenbaum Steven Hammond James McIntire and Craig Young.   Honorary pallbearers are Charles Ellas Kendall Sanders Brice Wheeler Marc Case and Dr. Carl Trusler.
