Obituary

Johnnie F. Mathews 80 of Abilene passed away Friday January 18 2013. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in North's Memorial Chapel with Bert Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange Street. Johnnie was born August 11 1932 in Childress Texas to Howard and Pearl (Bearden) Hunter. She married Sherman Mathews June 15 1947 in Yuba City California. They made their home with the military traveling to various cities and countries before making Abilene their home in 1974. She retired from Dyess Base Exchange in 1989. She was a member of the Baptist faith and the Breather's Club. She attended Hendrick Pulmonary Rehab where she made many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents husband one sister Jean Marler and one brother Sonny Hunter. She is survived by: two daughters; Janet Burks and husband Robert of Comanche Texas and Barbara Turnbow and husband Joe of Anchorage Alaska; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Dr. Keith Robinson for his long-term devotion of care of their Mother and to Hospice of the Big Country.
