Johnny B. Thompson Jr. was born on December 24, 1947 in Ben Arnold Texas. He departed this life March 26, 2024, at Hendricks's Hospital, in Abilene Texan. Johnny was third of five children born to the late Johnny B. Sr. and Layfetta Thompson. He was a product of Abilene Independent Schools i.e. Carter G. Woodson and Carter G. Woodson Jr. High class of 1967. Johnny was a member of Valley View Baptist Church, Rev. Andrew Penns Pastor. He met and married Sheri Smith February 3rd. 1973. Johnny was the father of 11 children, 43+ grandchildren and numerous great grand children.. He also had numerous God Children and was grandfather to all of their children. There was not a child he met that would not (after 3 encounters with him) end up claiming him as Pops, Papa or Dad. Johnny (Jr.to his siblings, Jay to others) was a PEOPLE PERSON. HE never ever met a stranger; He had friends from all walks/status of life, every gender, race, creed, color and ethnicity. If you were prejudice, you wouldn't be after an encounter with him. He was an entrepreneur from his heart and cars were his passion. He had several car lots, service stations, BBQ stand on wheels, he also bought and sold live stocks, Least we forgets his trucking business hauling pallets. He also repossessed cars.-you'd better not get behind on your payment especially if you had brought it from him. He was known for his unique repossessing skills. He could talk a person into just giving him the keys as oppose to him taking the car from them. Johnny also collected and refurbished antique cars. Johnny would do what ever he could to help you. If he could not help you himself he for certain and always knew somebody who could. Johnny is preceded in death by his beloved parents Johnny B and Layfetta Thompson, Sister, Mary L. Thompson Mosby, Son, Tim (Rico) and grand daughter Mycah Thompson. He leaves to cherish and carry on his memory and legacy of love; his wife Sheri Smith, of Clairde Texas, daughters Nanette Walton Day of Ft. Worth Texas and mother Nancy Walton, daughter Joann Cruz of Wichita Falls TX and mother Mary Barnes, 9 sons ( Kevin A. Thompson of Abilene, Theodore D. Thompson, wife (Shere), Clyde, Michael Thompson, wife (Dana), Abilene, Demetrius L McDonald wife (Andria) Abilene, Rey Guerra, Abilene, Tony Smith, Ohio, L.G. of Rotan Texas, Kimo Rogers of Houston andLadonevin Diggs of Abilene. He is also survived by 48 plus grandchildren and numerous great grand children. Additionally, Johnny is also survived by one sister, Roberta Thompson of Abilene, 3 brothers, Charles E. Thompson of Abilene, Ricky D. Thompson, of Las Vegas NV., Ike Jones of Omaha Nebraska and one uncle Norris Mooring of Sacramento, CA. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. We close this chapter of his earthly life in the words Johnny often used at the end of most phone conversations "May God Bless and keep you each and every day. See ya on the other side!!! A memorial service will be held Saturday April, 6 2024 at 11am at North's Funeral Home 242 Orange St. followed by a reception at Valley View Missionary Baptist Church. The family will have a celebration of life gathering will be held in Cal Young Park located on T&P Lane from 4pm to 11pm.
