Obituary

Jose Benivamondez, 81, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on August 25, 2026. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at North's Funeral Home, Visitation will be held Monday, August 31, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Jose was born on March 22, 1945, in Sinton, Texas, where he attended school before moving to Abilene in the mid-1960s.

Jose married the love of his life, Amelia Gonzales, on June 15, 1965. They renewed their vows on October 3, 1992, in Abilene. Together, they shared 55 loving years of marriage before Amelia's passing in 2020.

Jose was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for and caring for his family. He retired from Abilene State School after 25 years of dedicated service.

He enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures. Jose loved sports, especially football, and could often be found outside working in the yard. He loved a good barbecue and was a true handyman who could fix just about anything. He was known for his strong work ethic, his willingness to lend a helping hand, and his ability to teach those around him by example.

Perhaps Jose's greatest legacy is the family he leaves behind. His sons and grandsons learned from him the value of hard work, determination, and taking pride in a job well done. The lessons he taught through his words and, even more so, through his example, will continue through the generations.

Jose is survived by his children: Fabian Benivamondez (Jacque) of Abilene; Gloria Benivamondez of Abilene; Janie Acosta (Tony) of Allen, Texas; Sonny Benivamondez (Becky) of Loraine, Texas; Sonya Benivamondez of Greeley, Colorado; Cyndi Carter (Billy) of Abilene, Texas; and Eric Benivamondez (Nicole) of Abilene, Texas; 39 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Amelia Benivamondez, and his sons, Gilbert Benivamondez and Joe Benivamondez.

Jose will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched and through the family legacy of love, strength, and hard work that he leaves behind.
