Joseph L. Taylor, 70 of Abilene, Tx passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be held Friday December 23, 2022 at 12:30pm at North's Funeral Home Chapel located at 242 Orange St. Abilene, TX. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, 5- 7:00 PM at North's Funeral home. Joseph was born August 23, 1952 in Calvert, TX to Mattie Dora Sapp and Cleo Gilbert. The family were sharecroppers and moved to Abilene when Joseph was young. Joseph received his primary education from Abilene public Schools. In 1972 he enlisted in the United States Army earning a National Defense metal and served Honorably. After moving back to Abilene he worked at Meads Bread, RC Cola and eventually worked at the US Post Office for 13 years before retiring. Joseph loved to work on Cars, his favorite store was AutoZone. In his spare time he also loved fishing and hunting. Joseph was preceded in death by mother; Mattie Dora Taylor-Sapp and father Cleo Gilbert. Left to cherish his memories are: wife, Linda Kaye Taylor of Abilene, Tx they shared a son together Ethan Taylor of Dallas, TX along with Linda's 2 other children Curtis and Dana. Joe spent most of his life with his loving common law wife Stella Warthen of Killeen,TX and they shared 2 children together: Ophelia Taylor of Killeen, TX, and Joseph Taylor II of Abilene, TX. 3 grandchildren; Tiana Lee, Brooklynn Lee and Ryleigh Lee. siblings; Josie Marie Montgomery of Georgia, Sammy Sapp (Retia) of Abilene, TX.
