Joy Angline Pryor 91 of Abilene passed away Monday, December 14th, 2020 in Abilene, TX Graveside Service will be held Thursday December 17, 2020 at 3pm at Elmwood Memeorial Park at 5750 Hwy 277 South. with Dr. James "Butch" Anders officiating. Because it will be a brief service and because of the risk due to Covid-19, please don't feel obligated to attend. We understand that if circumstances were different, you would probably want to attend. Joy Angline Pryor was born July 4, 1929 in Tioga, TX to parents Fred and Myrtle Whisenant, she grew up in a Christian environment with strong Christian values. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Abilene, and until her decline in health, she was an active member of the church. Besides being a homemaker, she worked as a nurse at several places that she lived, including Hendricks Hospital. In the Mid 1960's she began a career at the Abilene State School in the Recreation Department doing many different activities including taking students for rides on the school bus-she was the bus driver. She progressed through the ranks, and was eventually an administrator at Abilene State School, retiring in the late 1980's. She was an avid bowler playing in many leagues until she was in her 70's. After retirement, she worked tirelessly at the "Farm"-gardening, lots of mowing, and always some project. She loved to travel. She had been to almost every state in the U.S.A, and she had traveled to many different countries. She was a good cook. Some of our favories of her cooking were; Wilted Lettuce, chocolate pie, beans and cornbread, homemade hamburgers, cheesecake, and german chocolate cake. She was pretty inventive sometimes; like the timees when we didn't have much money while living out on the farm in Cisco, and she would buy a piece of salt pork (which was about the cheapest thing that could be bought), slice it thin, with the rind on it, coat it in corn meal, fry it until crisp, salt it, then call it "Texas Trout" because it sort of looked like a small fish filet. We thought it was really good and something really special, when it was just fried salt pork. She was pretty adventuresome. She once delivered a car to some place in Los Angeles. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." -2 Corinthians 5:8 (KJV). The Lord is my Shepherd: i shall not want. Amen- Matthew 6:9-13 Joy was preceded in death by parents Fred and Myrtle Whisenant, Martin Pryor, France Louthan, Tom Agerton, left to cherish her memories son Edward Pryor and wife Pam, daughter Joana Agerton, grandchildren; Kyle Wasson and wife Christina, Chelsie Thomas and husband Carlton, Justin Agerton and wife Amanda T.L. Agerton and wife Michelle, siblings Freddie Shasteen, Lula Belle Johnson, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Richard Wasson, and special family member Ernest Strain.
