Joy Swonger 48 passed away Wednesday April 15 2009. She was a long time resident of Abilene and Tuscola. There will be a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church 525 Beech Street conducted by Chris Hail Fire Chief Ken Dozier and the members of the Abilene Fire Department under the direction of North's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at North's Funeral Home. Joy was born October 27 1960 to James Robertson and Joan Roberts in Lynwood California. She met Larry Swonger in San Diego California while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. They then moved to Abilene and were married on February 2 1980. She started a career in banking which included Citizens National Bank Bluebonnet Savings and Loan and Bank of America. She was most recently employed at Edward Jones. Joy was a devoted mother loving wife and loyal friend to many. Joy was preceded in death by her brother Jon Kelly Robertson. She is survived by her husband Larry; two sons: Jarred and Josh of Tuscola; Joan and Wayne Roberts of Ford Virginia; and two sisters: Jackie Day and Mike Witek of Cibolo Texas and Jill and John Burke of Mobile Alabama.; Jay and Barbara Swonger and family. She also had many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Abilene Fire Fighters Chaplain Fund at the Abilene Federal Credit Union.
