Obituary

Joyce Smith-Reed, age 77, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025. She was born on October 23, 1947, in Big Spring, Texas. Joyce was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Joyce spent her early childhood in Aspermont and Swenson TX, before moving to Abilene at the age of 10. She attended and graduated from Carter G. Woodson High School. Joyce married Quincy Gene Reed in 1966, and together they built a loving family. Joyce worked as an Administrative Assistant for the IRS and the West Texas Council of Government, and also as an Administrative Assistant at the Taylor County Clerks Office, always providing support and dedication in her career. Joyce's hobbies included playing Bingo, watching sports, assembling puzzles, and especially cheering on her grandchildren. She loved to fish and, in her younger years, was an avid motorcyclist. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life and always cherished time spent with family and friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Quincy Reed Sr., her parents Otha Smith and Louise White-Smith, siblings: Freddy Smith, Doris Jean Gray, Otha Strahan, Dorothy Jenkins, Booker T. Smith, and grandchildren: Malshard Williams and Torriano A. Reed. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: children Roslyn Reed of Abilene, Denise Garrett and husband Eldon of Abilene, Dennis Reed and wife Wendy of Killeen, TX, Quincy Reed Jr. of Abilene; brother Leroy Smith of Abilene; sister Ella Smith of Abilene; and special friend Donald Lee Johnson. Joyce's legacy lives on through her 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, as well as a host of extended family and many friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 11:00am at Galilee Baptist Church in Abilene. Burial will follow at the Texas State Veteran Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 5-7pm at North's Funeral Home. Joyce will be remembered for her loving heart, her devotion to her family, and her joyful spirit. She touched the lives of many, and her memory will forever be cherished.
