Obituary

Juana "Janie" Garza, 79, of Abilene, passed away Tuesday November 21, 2023. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5-7pm with Rosary to be held at 6pm at North's Funeral Home 242 Orange St. Abilene TX, 79601. Funeral Mass will be held Monday November 27 at 10am at St. Francis Catholic Church with Father Bhaskar Morugudi Officiating, Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Abilene, Texas. Arrangements are by North's Funeral Home, Abilene, Texas. Janie was born on June 12, 1944 in Hondo, Texas to Miguel and Teodora Aguilar. She married the love of her life, Ray Garza on May 16, 1965 in Winters, Texas. She was a longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Abilene, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the Guadalupana Society since 1967. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking authentic and wonderful food for family, friends and church members. She also loved shopping for antiques and finding treasures. She was a longtime Dallas Cowboys fan who loved watching the games and cheering on the team. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her and will be in our hearts forever. Janie was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Benina Arredondo, Florentina Cortez, Randie Mascoro. She is survived by her loving husband, Ray; sons, Tony (Connie) of Abilene, Robert (Kathe) of North Richland Hills and Manuel (Lorena) of Abilene; siblings: Dominga Cortez of Winters, Josie Lugo of Winters, Ana Puentes of Stockton, California, Frances Lewis of Columbus, Ohio and Don Aguilar of Baytown; 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Pallbearers will be: sons Tony Garza, Manuel Garza, Robert Garza, grandsons; Ryan Garza, Gabriel Garza, brother in-law Johnny DeLaGarza Sr.. The family would like to give a special thanks to all the caregivers along with the nurses at Kindred/Gentiva Hospice service, Sara Escobedo and Dr. Charles Fuller.
