Obituary

Kelly Ann McIver, 32, an avid baker, amateur chef, loving friend, daughter, a native of Abilene and longtime resident of Austin, Texas, passed away on August 6, 2017. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 9, 2017 in North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange Street, Abilene, Texas. Kelly was born in Abilene, Texas to Kent McIver and Joy Huskerson on February 16, 1985. She graduated from Abilene High School in 2002, and then went on to receive both a bachelor's and master's degree in psychology from Hardin-Simmons University before moving to Austin in 2009. She made so many friends in her work at Perini Ranch, Trudy's Texas Star, Hey Cupcake, The Glass Onion, and Pirhana Killer Sushi. Her co-workers and regular customers adored her for her warm and thoughtful nature – you could always count on her to brighten your day. She also devoted a good bit of her time to those less fortunate, she selflessly served Austin's homeless community until moving to South Carolina to explore new opportunities. She was a faithful friend and had immense love and devotion for those close to her. She enjoyed being near the water, whether ocean, river or lake, and often enjoyed road trips with friends and even solo cross country excursions where she could satisfy her curiosity for discovering new places and meeting new friends – especially on Dave Matthews tour. She was a baker at heart – it was both her passion and her career. Her friends and family were always beneficiaries of her delicious and sometimes "offbeat" confections - always delicious, and always made with love. She will be deeply missed and always remembered fondly by her many friends, family, and all whose lives were made brighter by her love and energy. She is survived by her family; her mother, Joy Huskerson and husband Dan. Father, Kent McIver and spouse Kristi. One brother Kyle McIver and wife Brooke and one nephew Oliver. Grandparents, Jerry and Fran McIver and grandmother Ann Greenhaw. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins, Mary and Fred Van Orden, Dan Ivey, Jack Marshall, Maria Lemon, and Walter Manuel. She is also survived and remembered by countless family and friends who loved her, as well as her cat Monster. Her spirit rejoices in being reunited with her grandparents Lewis and Edith Ivey, great uncles Mike Herron and David Lemon, and her companions Precious the cat and her beloved rescue dog Dusty. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in Kelly's memory to Mental Health America of Abilene or Rescue the Animals SPCA.
