Larry W. McCraw 75 of Abilene passed away Friday March 09 2012. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in North's Memorial Chapel with Rodney Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Sunday in North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange St .
Mr. McCraw was born March 22 1936 in Hawley Texas to Howard H. McCraw and Ovelle Stricklin McCraw Eaton. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1954. He played football at Abilene High School for Chuck Moser. He was in the National Guard from 1954 – 1960. He married Idanel North on July 4 1958 in Abilene . He worked for Lone Star Gas Company for forty-two years in Abilene Hamlin Stamford Ballinger Gatesville and Denison . During his tenure with Lone Star Gas he served as a manager district manager and marketing manager. He was an elder and deacon in the Presbyterian Church in Stamford and Gatesville and was a choir member.
Larry loved hunting golf bowling and sports especially the Abilene Eagle football team. He loved watching his kids and grandkids in their events at school. He loved his longhorn cattle and farming in Shep Texas .
He is preceded in death by his parents one daughter Cathy and one sister Jane Forbus.
He is survived by his wife Idanel. One son Steve McCraw and wife Michelle of Gatesville Texas . One daughter Lori Kay Harris and husband David of Pflugerville Texas . Grandchildren Josh McCraw and Ashton McCraw of Gatesville and Kaylee Harris of Pflugerville. Sisters Helen Akens of Clyde and Patsy Nettles of Abilene . Brothers-in-law Ross Forbus of San Antonio Bill and Gwen North James and Judith North and Jack and Sandie North all of Abilene and many nieces nephews and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Harold and David Landrum Charles Hilburn Josh McCraw Don Baber Lyndell Rains Bubba and Bill North.
Honorary pallbearers will be his bowling golf and hunting friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations sent to the Ben Richey Boys Ranch 501 Ben Richey Dr. Abilene Texas 79602 or a charity of their choice.
