Lenora Maureen (Green) Chaney went to be home with Jesus on July 25, 2017, in Abilene, Texas, at the age of 93. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017, in North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange St., Abilene, TX, with burial following in Cedar Hill Cemetery, 1133 Cottonwood St. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at North's Funeral Home. Lenora was born on March 1, 1924, in Winnsboro, Texas, to John Thomas Green and Ruth (Stokes) Green. As a young girl, her family moved to a farm near Shamrock, Texas, and in the late 1930's moved to Houston, where she became a proud graduate of Jeff Davis High School. After graduation, she worked as a telephone operator and told stories about phone calls made during World War II. She soon met her husband H.H. Chaney, Jr. at 501 1/2 Main Street, and they were married on April 20, 1945 at her parents' home in Houston. She was blessed with 72 years of marriage. Lenora was a devoted wife and mother. She was a long time member of South Side Baptist Church in Abilene and worked many years in the nursery, teaching 3rd and 4th graders, VBS, and going on mission trips. She was also the bookkeeper for H.H. Chaney Concrete. Lenora is survived by her husband, H. H. Chaney, Jr., daughter-in-law Norma Chaney of Houston, daughter Maureen Castleberry of Abilene, son Allen Chaney and wife Lynda of Abilene, son Bobby Chaney and wife Cindy of Abilene, daughter Tammy Parsons and husband Terry of Abilene, and brother Johnny Jack Green and wife Joanne of Spring, TX. She also has 9 grandchildren, Christy, Cory, Courtney, Brandon, Natalie, Will, Jay, Austin and Faith, as well as 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son Billy Stokes Chaney, her parents John Thomas and Ruth Green, a sister Betty Ruth Green who died as an infant, and 6 brothers, Marion, Leroy, Stokes, Irving, Valton and J.R. Lenora loved to travel with "Chaney" throughout the US in their Motor Home. Many nights were spent with longtime friends playing games and eating out. Lenora loved to host her children and their families during the Holidays. It was always a special time to spend the Holidays at Mema and Pepa's place.
