Obituary

In Loving Memory of Linda "Nana" Kay Howerton Linda "Nana" Kay Howerton, age 69, peacefully passed away November 26th, 2023, at her home. Linda's journey began at Anne's Catholic Hospital, in Abilene, Texas on March 19th, 1954. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Linda enriched the lives of those around her with tenderness, understanding, and an unshakeable love for family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, John Franklin Howerton, her daughter, Lacie Marie Rivera, and her grandchildren, Jessamyn Cheyenne Rivera, Alexander Antonio Rivera, and bonus granddaughters Chelsea Johnson and Patty Ann Rivera, as well as her great-granddaughters, Eleanor Grace Rivera and Caroline Marie Rivera. Linda is also survived by her brother, Jon Robert Harendt, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and a community of friends who will always cherish the memories of her kindness and love. Linda is preceded in death by her son, Steven Duane Howerton, her mother, Dorothy White, her beloved stepfather, Donald White, her brother, Howard Harendt, and her father, W. Floys Harendt. Linda, the beloved daughter of W. Floys Harendt and Dorothy Averett White, was a proud member of Cowboy Heritage Church for 18 years. Her passion for family history and ancestry led her to become an active participant in the West Texas Genealogy Society and the Clyde Genealogy Group. Linda was not only an avid crafter but also possessed an innate appreciation for beauty, with a discerning eye for the wonders of the world-be it the sparkle of a gem, the rugged allure of a rock, or the delicate elegance found in the petals of a flower. Known to many as an animal whisperer, she held a special connection with the creatures she encountered. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at North's Funeral Home. A funeral service to celebrate Linda's life will take place on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 11:00 AM, also at North's Funeral Home, followed by a graveside ceremony at Hamby Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in Linda's honor. Linda will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her love, grace, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace.
