Lloyd Purvis, 69, of Lubbock, formerly of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013. A Memorial Service is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 in North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange St. with Dr. Michael Harbour officiating. Burial will be in Ryan Chapel in Diboll, Texas at a later date. Lloyd was born March 24, 1944 in Eastland, Texas to John M. and Bobbie Nell (Brashear) Purvis, Jr. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1962. While at Abilene High he served as treasurer of FFA and was a member of the Livestock Judging Team and won numerous awards. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Abilene Christian University in 1969. Lloyd and his family settled in Lufkin, Texas in 1971, where he worked for the United States Department of Agriculture. He received many letters of commendation. He was an avid fisherman and a member of the Lufkin Bass Club. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Lloyd had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. He was a member of the Church of Christ. After retiring in 2000, he reconnected with his high school sweetheart, April Austin and they married in 2008 where they resided in Lubbock, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; one son, Timothy Blaine Purvis; son-in-law James Altimari and several nephews. He is survived by his wife April Purvis. One daughter, Kim Altimari. One son, James Michael and wife Darla Purvis. Step-daughter, Traci Butler. Grandchildren, Matthew Altimari, Paige Purvis, Cody Purvis and Annalisse Butler. One great-granddaughter Kylie Purvis. Sisters: Johnelle Hicks and husband Victor, Joretta Watts and husband Albert, Jackie Hoyt and husband Roy, Debbie Diggs and husband Joe; one brother, Donald Purvis and several nieces and nephews.
