Mable Irene Carter, 97, of Abilene, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2026. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 10:00 AM at North's Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, October 2, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at North's Funeral Home.
Mable was born March 23, 1929, in Caddo, Texas, to Richard and Rhoda Huckaby. She grew up in Breckenridge, Texas, where she made many cherished memories. On March 29, 1947, she married the love of her life, Bufford "Syl" Sylvester Carter. Together, they shared 37 years marriage and built a life filled with love and family until his passing on June 14, 1984.
Mable was a faithful Christian and a devoted homemaker who took great pride in caring for her family and creating a loving home. She believed in staying active and enjoyed participating in water aerobics at the YMCA, where she remained active and connected with others.
Mable found great joy in cooking, baking, and canning. Her German chocolate cake was a special favorite among family and friends. She loved sharing the things she made with others, bringing people together around her table. She also enjoyed gardening and took pride in planting, tending, and watching things grow. These simple pleasures brought her happiness and gave her many opportunities to share her love with those around her.
Mable will be remembered for her independence, determination, faithful heart, love of family, and the many little things that made her unique. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memories are: her children; Ed Carter (wife Joy) and Larry Carter (wife Donna),
her grandchildren; Michael Carter (wife Ronda), Steven Carter (wife Brandi), Heather Carter Powell (husband Jake), and David Carter (wife Chloe), Chris Carter (wife Kathy), Jennifer Carter Locke (husband Brad), great-grandchildren: Cameron Carter, Jacob Carter, Matthew Carter, Caden Carter, Jase Powell, Hazel Powell, Allyson Carter, and Kathryn Carter, great-great-grandchild; Elizabeth Carter and many nieces and nephews.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Amanda and EJ, her hospice nurses, and the nursing staff at Morada for the compassionate care, kindness, and unwavering support they provided to Mable and her family during her final days.
