Mack "Pete" Alton Jones 90 went home to his Lord and Savior on December 30th 2012 after a brief illness. Graveside services are scheduled at 2:00 pm on Friday January 4 th 2013 at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene directed by North's Funeral Home with Pastor David McQueen of Beltway Park Baptist Church officiating. Mack was born on November 6 1922 in Winters Texas to Nita Robinson Jones and James Ira Jones. He served his country as a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a bombardier with the 96 th Bomb Squadron and flew an unprecedented 35 missions.   During this time Mack married the love of his life Chalene Carter on December 22 1944. Mack started working in the construction business after his military career at Abilene Sash and Door Hawkins and Westbrook and Jeff Luther Construction. Mack had a love for creating and designing architecture and played a large role in the history of Abilene in his work on Hendrick Medical Center Moody Coliseum Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest and Dyess Air Force Base just to name a few. Mack is survived by his wife of 68 years Chalene Jones daughter Kay Yates of Abilene daughter Trudy Iannarone and husband Stephen of Downers Grove IL son Steve Jones and wife Joey Jones of Abilene and son Greg Jones and wife Melanie of Tuscola. He is also survived by his grandchildren Vic Weaver Shannon Anderson Alicia Fabian Tina Jordan Brook Johnson Lindsay Carrillo Ashley Neyhart Thomas Saverance and Rebecca Jones and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents a brother Pat Jones and granddaughter Carrie Anne Riggan.
