Mamie 90 went to be with the Lord peacefully at her home in North Richland Hills TX Saturday November 19 2011. Services will be held Tuesday at 2:00pm at North's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow Elmwood Memorial Park .   A visitation will be held from 6:00-7:30pm Monday evening at North's Funeral Home. Mamie was born June 28 1921 in Nahunta Georgia to Avant Raiford Griffin and Carrie Easter Higginbotham Griffin . She moved to Abilene in 1945.   Mamie married Jennings Bryan Stone in Abilene Texas in 1963. She was employed by Safeway Foods Aileens and Abilene MHMR. She retired to care for her husband the love of her life. Mamie loved the outdoors; she was always planting a garden and caring for her roses. She enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables. Her southern cooking was always a treat for family and friends. Her sweet tea fried chicken and chicken nuggets were her specialty. Most of all she loved her family. Memaw as her grandchildren called her was so excited to hear the news of another great-grandchild to be born in April 2012. Even in her declining days she was joyous and smiling. Jennings her youngest son opened his home and lovingly cared for her until her death. A celebration of her life of 90 years was held this year with a small gathering of family and friends at their home. She was preceded in death by her husband parents sister Marie Morgan son Sam Stone and daughter Julie Byrd. Survivors include her sister Myrtle Smith of Yorktown VA daughter Jacquoline Smith of Austin TX son Jary Stone (Bunny) of Albuquerque NM son Roy Stone (Linda) WA daughter Edna Burklow (Ronnie) of Fort Worth Texas daughter Fran Stone of Abilene TX and son Jennings Bryan Stone II of North Richland Hills TX 21 grandchildren 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Vitas Hospice for the care kindness and love they showed to our mother. Family suggest memorials be made to Day Nursery of Abilene and Food Bank.
