Margaret Sharp Basquette, 82, of Abilene, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017. A Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 21, 2017 in North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange Street.
She was born in Crockett, Texas on October, 27, 1934 to Leonard and Lois (Simonton) Sharp. She graduated from Reagan High School in Houston, Texas and from San Houston State Teachers College, now named San Houston University. She married Hugh Howard Basquette May 28, 1955 in Houston, Texas. Margaret taught school in Houston, Waco and Abilene retiring after teaching thirty-two years. She was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church since 1967. She was a member of the Friends of the Abilene Public Library, The Abilene Woman's Club, 20th Century Study Club, Thursday Forum Study Club, Abilene Retired Teachers and Texas Retired Teacher and several Book Groups. Margaret enjoyed being a community volunteer. At times she volunteered at the library, Grace Museum, NCCIL, Frontier Texas, Baptist Social Ministry, and RSVP. One of her favorite volunteer positions was the Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale. The AAUW of Abilene named Margaret as a Woman of Outstanding Achievement in 2014.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Aubrey, Calvin and John and by sisters, Kelena and Mary.
She is survived by husband Hugh Basquette, sons, Ronn Basquette, Roger Basquette and daughter-in-law Toni Atterbury, daughter Vickie Ulrich and son-in-law Chris, former daughter- in- law Rebekka Basquette and grandchildren Lexy Basquette, Zachary and Kelsey Ulrich and brother, Billy Sharp, sister-in-law, Benita and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial donations may be made to The Abilene Woman's Club, Pioneer Driver Baptist Church, Friends of the Abilene Public Library.
