Margaret Delina (Duthie) Stanley 82 of Abilene passed away on June 9 2013. The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm Thursday July 11 th at North's Funeral Home 242 Orange Street in Abilene. A memorial service will be held at 10am Friday July 12 th at the Texas State Veteran's Cemetery 7457 West Lake Road in Abilene Texas. Margaret was born to Harry and Delina (LeBlanc) Duthie in Edmundston New Brunswick Canada on November 10 1930. She was raised and attended schools in Madawaska Maine. She graduated from Farmington State Teacher's College (now University of Maine at Farmington) with a B.S. in 1953. Margaret became a naturalized citizen while a student at Farmington. She taught home economics for three years in Mexico Maine. In 1956 she moved to Condon Oregon to teach home economics. While there she met 2 nd Lt. Lee Ralph Stanley at Condon Air Force Station. They were married in 1957 and moved to Columbus Ohio in 1959. On settling there they became charter members of Parsons Avenue Baptist Church which was formed as a mission of Southside Baptist Church with meetings starting in a school house. Margaret was active in the nursery and vacation Bible school. They later moved to Warrensburg Missouri for assignment at Whiteman Air Force Base. While there Margaret was active in Sunday school and vacation Bible school.   While her husband was assigned to Korat Air Base in Thailand she moved to Chillicothe Texas. She taught science there at Odell Junior High School during the 1968/1969 school year and was also active in church Sunday school and vacation Bible school. Margaret moved to Taipei Taiwan in 1969 with her husband for his assignment to the Military Assistance Advisory Group-China. During her time there she was a volunteer teacher of spoken English for senior officers at the Chinese War College. The family moved to Lexington Virginia in 1971 while Lee was assigned as ROTC instructor at Virginia Military Institute. In 1973 she moved to Abilene Texas when Lee was assigned to Dyess Air Force Base. Margaret worked for the State of Texas for ten years beginning in 1977 at the Texas Employment Commission where she worked for three years and at Abilene State School where she worked for seven years. On moving to Abilene she and her husband moved their membership to Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. After a few TDYs attendance became sporadic and they are now members in name only. Margaret was a member of the Greater Abilene Kiwanis Club. Margaret will always be remembered for her unwavering optimism her ever-present smile and her unsurpassed zest for life. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband of nearly 57 years Lee R. Stanley; daughter Pamela and son-in-law Carl Drake III of San Francisco California; son Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Denise of El Reno Oklahoma; brother Alexander Duthie of Fryeburg Maine; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Schulz and Team Schulz Dolores and the nurses and CNAs of Windcrest Alzheimer's Care Center Chaplain Nassef and the nurses and CNAs with Integracare Hospice for the tremendous love and support shown in caring for Margaret throughout her long illness. The family also would like to thank Jack and Sandi North for their guidance and patience in helping to bring closure at this time.
