Mrs. Maria C Vargas, age 86, of Abilene, passed away Tuesday evening, April 20, 2021, at her residence. Funeral services will be held Friday April 23, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Francis Catholic Church. Viewing will be held Thursday from 6-8pm at North's Funeral Home. Maria was born September 12, 1934, in Loraine, Tx, a daughter of the late C.P. and Simona Castro. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Augustine Vargas; two sisters, Cruz Diaz and Janie Ortega; three brothers, Pat, Joe, and Tony Castro; one grandson, James Lujan; one son-in-law, Danny Lujan; one daughter-in-law Jennifer Flores. She loved her child and grandchildren so much. She enjoyed playing bingo, sewing, and watching her sports on tv. Her favorite teams of course were the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. She loved to make tamales and they were the best. Maria was survived by four sons; Augustine Jr, Johnny, Ernie, and Roy Cantu; five daughters, Ofelia, Minnie, Rosemary, Patsy, and Janie; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; five sisters, Theresa, Maggie, Victoria, Julie, and Angelina; two brothers, Richard and Frank Castro.
