Marion James Cope, 64, of Abilene, Texas, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022. A Memorial Service will be held in his honor Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11 am at North's Funeral Home Chapel. Marion was born March 6, 1958 in Abilene, Texas to Dubby Mae Cope and Leonard Cope. After graduating from Albany High School, Marion began his career in law enforcement with Cisco Police Department. He would go on to work with Abilene Police Department, Breckenridge Police Department, Stephens County Sheriff's Department, and Taylor County Sheriff's Department until his retirement in 2017. Marion met his wife Linda in 1987 and they were joined in holy matrimony on September 10, 1988. Together they would have many adventures together, especially raising three kids. Life was always full of traveling for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, sports, band trips, and driving to Canada to see Linda's family. He enjoyed collecting coins, searching for arrowheads, studying history, and reading true crime books. When his first grandchild was born in 2001, he found a new passion. He adored all five of his grandchildren. He was looking forward to moving to Wallis to be closer to his youngest grandkids. Marion enjoyed life. He always tried to find the comedy in every situation. He would say life is too short to be sad or angry all the time and he would do his best to make you laugh. He is preceded in death by his father, Leonard Cope, mother, Dubby Mae Box Cope, and sister-in-law, Gayla Robinson. He is survived by his wife, Linda, daughter, Tara Pirsch and her husband Ben of Wallis, TX, son Charles Smith and wife Kathryn of Abilene, TX, and son, Allan Smith and wife Jeanette of Odessa, TX, and grandchildren James Tyler Smith, Marion Kathryn Smith, McKenzie Smith, KyleighAnn Pirsch, and Hunter Pirsch. He is also survived by his sister Dianne Vickers and husband Jerry of Alabama and brother Irving "Cookie" Robinson of Putnam, TX along with multiple generations of nephews and nieces as well as extended family and many friends.
