Marjorie P. Hutchinson of Abilene passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023 in Abilene, TX. Wake will be held Friday, September 1, 2023, 6:00 ~ 7:00 p.m. and visitation from 7:00 ~ 8:00 p.m. at Valley View Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held Saturday September 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at King Solomon Baptist Church 1050 Minda Ln. Interment will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Texas State Veteran Cemetery. Marjorie Priscilla Lockett was born in Stamford, TX to the late Reverend Tom H. Lockett and Lenora Marie Munson-Lockett on December 4, 1948. She attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School in Plainview, TX through the first part of the 4th grade, then transferred to Carter G. Woodson Elementary School in Abilene and Continued to Carter G. Woodson Junior Sr. High School in Abilene, TX. While attending Woodson, she participated in cheerleading, student council, and drill team and shined as an operatic singer. After graduating, she worked at Timex and decided to go back to school to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). She attended the Abilene Intercollegiate School of Nursing and was the first African American to attend. She began her career at the Abilene State School which later became known as the Abilene State Supported Living Center (ASSLC) and decided to advance her career as a Registered Nurse(RN). While attending Abilene Christian University, she became the first African American student to receive a scholarship from the Abilene Businesswoman's Association. Marjorie climbed the career at ASSLC by becoming a RN supervisor, RN Case Manager, and Nurse Manager. Marjorie's position required her to mainly supervise the nurses but did not mind working with patients when necessary. She was always willing to listen to others concerns or problems and would take them all the way to the top if deemed necessary. At the time of her retirement, she was the RN Case Manager Supervisor and worked at ASSLC for 44 years. Marjorie married Pastor Luther Hutchinson in 1987 and blended a beautiful family of 12 children. Their ministry started at Solomon Temple in Stamford, TX and eventually they opened Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Abilene, TX. They served for 15 years at Mt. Sinai and enjoyed giving back to the youth. She was a treasurer as a member of the Minister's Wives Association and served faithfully while her husband was the moderator of the Progressive West Texas Baptist Association. Luther and Marjorie's union continued for 26 years. First and foremost, Mrs. Hutchinson was dedicated to God, her Christian life, family, and church. If there was ever a time anyone needed a helping hand or listening ear, Marjorie was there. She worked closely with everyone, regardless of their position and she will be truly missed by all. Mrs. Hutchinson is survived by her sister: Brienda D. Lockett-Middelton; brother: Allan Neil Lockett; stepchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her memories will be lived on in the hearts of her brother and her baby sister. Mrs. Hutchinson is preceded in death by husband Luther Hutchinson; son Alfred Andre'lous Lockett; her parents. Rev. Tom Lockett and Mrs. Lenora Lockett; her brothers: Hardie Lockett, wife Gloria Lockett residing in Dallas, Carl Lockett, wife Patricia Lockett residing in Plano and Leonard Lockett, wife Ruthie Lockett residing in Houston.
