Marjorie Parmelly (nee Jones) a retired Abilene teacher died Tuesday January 16 2007 at the age of 86. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 PM January 23 2007 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Derrell Patterson and Caro Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 – 6:30 PM at North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange St.
She was born in Bradshaw Texas on September 27 1920 the second child of Rev. Arthur and Cozette Hunt Jones.
Marjorie graduated from Rochester High School and McMurry University where she earned two degrees. She concluded a thirty year career in teaching in May 1985 as an elementary teacher first at Butterfield Elementary School then at Johnston Elementary School in the Abilene ISD
Marjorie was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church the Abilene Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. Her hobbies were: piano; bridge; reading; cooking; watching sports; traveling; crossword puzzles and most of all spending time with her beloved family. She also volunteered at Hendrick Medical Center and Sears Methodist Center for many years.
Marjorie will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family her courageous and persevering spirit her dedication to the teaching profession her tireless work at Aldersgate United Methodist Church her superb cooking skills her sense of humor and her great strength of character.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hollis Parmelly her parents her son William Parmelly and her brother Garth Jones.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Virginia Jones; daughters Sandra and husband Clyde Wurst Connie Petree; daughter-in-law Loni Parmelly; grandchildren Robert LaBerge and wife Joanie Ben Balliew and wife Jessica Carla Green Jennifer Bromwich Amanda Dyer and Jarrod Parmelly; great-grandchildren David Green Jessica LaBerge Travis LaBerge and Kamryn Balliew; nieces and nephews; Tiffany Hayes Bronwyn Turner Carol Jones David Jones and Mary Jones; five great-nieces eight great-nephews many beloved cousins and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Noah Project Aldersgate United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the charity of choice.
