Martha Caroline Simpson Mayo "Meemaw", 74, of Abilene went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 24, 2014 after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in North's Memorial Chapel with J. D. Miller officiating and Beth Reeves assisting. Burial will follow in Buffalo Gap Cemetery, under the direction of North's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange St. Mrs. Mayo was born August 14, 1939 in Mason, Texas to Toddy and Katherine Simpson. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She worked for Abilene Independent School District for over 30 years where she retired in 2004 from Abilene High School. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leon Mayo and step-mother Louise Martin. She is survived by her daughter, Debra McCracken and husband Brett of Abilene; son, Michael of Ft. Worth, Texas; granddaughter, Katie McCracken "Katie Bug" of Abilene; sister-in-law, Janet Robertson of Ozona, Texas; step-sister, Lou Ann Peterson of Mason, Texas and special family, Jean Barber.
