Martha Sue Burk, 81, Abilene, Texas passed away on December 15, 2013. Graveside services will be held on Saturday Dec 21st 2pm at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM Highway 1223, San Angelo, Texas.
Sue was born on October 4th, 1932 to Uldrick and Pearl Nelms in Whitewright, Texas. After marrying her husband Weldon in August of 1949, they lived in several places throughout Texas before moving to Abilene in 1971. While in Abilene she worked at Timex and Texas Instruments. In 1979, they moved to San Angelo, where she worked as a machinist making medical supplies at Ethicon from 1979 to 1992 when she retired. She returned to Abilene in 1997. She enjoyed canning, making candy, baking and gardening. Her patio in the spring was always adorned with beautiful flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Weldon Edward Burk, daughter, Glenda Kay Cookerly, son Ronald Burk and sister Mary Jo and also her beloved pug, Tazy.
She is survived by four children, Sherri White, Steve Burk, Gayle Kute and Gary Burk; two sisters, Imogene White and Frances Prine. Martha was blessed with nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking to make donations to the following:
Meals on Wheels of Abilene, Hospice of the Big Country, and Hospice at Hendricks Hospital.
The family would like to thank both the Hospice of the Big Country and Hendrick Hospice Care for taking such loving and tender care of her during this difficult time.
