Obituary

Marvin transitioned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at the age of 64 in Abilene, TX after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born with the name of Marvin Kay on March 2, 1956 to Ike and Alma Brooks in Abilene; however, he was affectionately known as "Ben" to his family and friends his entire life. Ben graduated from Abilene High School in 1974 and went on to become a private contractor focusing his talents on residential remodeling and construction. He attended truck driving school for a short stint, however felt like his true calling was really into remodeling homes as well as construction. He later moved to Dallas where his career as a private contractor flourished. It was during this time he also became the father of Misty & Morgan Baldwin. In1985 hemarried Janice Davis and to them were born two children, Jasmin and Jarvis Brooks. They later divorced after 8 years of marriage. Ben soon afterwards retired from construction and moved back home to reside with his sisters Teresa Edmondson & Laverne Williams. Together they took care of him till the end. He losthis battle with cancer while a resident of Silverspring Nursing Home in Abilene. He leaves behind to cherish his memories: Four children:Jasmin & Jarvis Brooksof Marshall TX; Misty & Morgan Baldwinof Ft. Worth, TX. Twelve Grandchildren: Kenidi Kelley & Kaiden Starling, children of Jasmin; Demetrious Dooley, Genesis Brooks& Justin Brooks, children of Jarvis; Erin Baldwin, Reagan Wright& Roy Wright, children of Misty; Daylon Houston, Dinasia Baldwin, Morgan Baldwin& India Baldwin children of Morgan. Three brothers and three sisters: Doris Lopez (Phillip) - Abilene, Ike Brooks, Jr. (Viola) -Manor, TX, Don E. Brooks -Abilene, Faye Pettigrew (Michael) - Lindale, TX, Laverne Williams (Edwin)- Kyle TX, Teresa Edmondson (Leland) – Kyle, TX and Perry Brooks – Kyle, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents Ike and Alma; two sisters and one brother: Martha Wolfe, Vanessa Betford and Sammy Brooks. Due to safety concerns regarding the Covid19 Pandemic, there will be no viewing or service at this time. His earthly shell will be put to rest by North's Funeral Home. Ben'slife will be celebrated tentatively on August 15, 2020 inAbileneTX at a place to be determine in the future. It will be presided by Rev.AndrewPenns~Sr. Pastor of Valley View Missionary Baptist Church. Cremation services entrusted to North's Funeral Home.
