Obituary

Mary Douglas died peacefully on Sunday April 26 2009 in Austin after a long battle with cancer. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange St Abilene Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of The Heavenly Rest 602 Meander Abilene Texas under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Mary was born August 24 1934 in Franklin Texas to George and Dricie Currie. After graduating Salutatorian from Franklin High School in 1951 she moved to Abilene to attend Abilene Christian College. She married C.J. Douglas on July 2 1954 in Abilene and that's where they raised their three kids David Dianne and Dale. Mary started her own business AAA Employment Agency that she ran for many years. She was also very active in the Abilene Philharmonic the Democratic Party and volunteering with AIDS organizations in Dallas and Austin. Mary never met a stranger and was always ready to throw a party at the drop of a hat. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking for her friends and family. Mary D. was loved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed. Mary was preceded in death by her son Dale in 1989. She is survived by husband C.J. son and daughter-in-law David and Patty Douglas of Pflugerville daughter Dianne Douglas of Redondo Beach California granddaughter Jennifer Douglas of Austin grandson Kevin Douglas of Austin sister Doris Bryant of College Station brother and sister-in-law Don and Treva Currie of Huntsville and brother Charles Currie.
