Obituary

Mary Lou Horton (Barnett), born June 21, 1930, in O'Brien, Texas, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on 11/06/2025 in Abilene, Texas, due to natural causes. She was the beloved daughter of Ada Hanson Barnett and Jesse Barnett. A devoted matriarch, trailblazing entrepreneur, and cherished friend, Mary Lou's presence was a guiding light to all who knew her. Her unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life, and we take comfort in knowing she now rejoices in Heaven, reunited with those who went before her. Over her remarkable 95 years, Mary Lou defied the limitations placed on women of her generation. With determination, grit, and grace, she built successful businesses and inspired others by proving that women can not only match, but exceed expectations. Her legacy is one of strength, perseverance, and boundless love. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dorman D. Horton, the love of her life, as well as her treasured children: Sharon Watson, Jerry Don Horton, Mickey Horton, and Barbara Blassingame. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also preceded her in passing. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Mauldin and Gloria Masso; sons-in-law Jerry McDaniel and Edward Masso; and a loving legacy of grandchildren: Shawn Watson, Keith Horton, Angela Nichols, Mandy Blassingame, Crystal Watson, Brittany Kolb, Audrey Mauldin, and Amber Masso. Her family also includes numerous great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward. Rather than mourn her passing, we invite you to celebrate her life and rejoice in the knowledge that she is soaring with the angels, her heart finally at rest. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at North's Funeral Home in Abilene, Texas. A graveside Service will take place on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Elmwood Memorial Park, also in Abilene, Texas. We welcome all who knew and loved her to stop by, pay their respects, and see her off to her final resting place.
