Mary Elizabeth Whatley Jones was called home by the Lord on Monday June 27.  She was born in 1914 in Hale County Alabama to Frederick S. and Mary B. (Hicks) Whatley.  She graduated from Hale County High School as valedictorian.  Later she graduated from the University of Alabama where she was president of her chapter of the Chi Omega Fraternity and was secretary to the Dean of Women.  On June 3 1937 at St. Paul 's Episcopal Church of Greensboro Alabama she married Morgan Jones Jr. and quickly became active in Abilene community service and social life.             At St. Paul United Methodist Church in Abilene she was active in the Women of the Church and completed two courses of Disciple Bible Study.  Mrs. Jones was a founding member of the Junior League of Abilene serving as the first vice president.  She also worked with the Red Cross receiving the Award of Merit and the Young Women's Christian Association.  She was an active member of the Library Board the Taylor County Health Advisory Board and the Abilene Alumnae Pan-Hellenic Association.  She was active in the Girl Scouts where she earned the Thanks Badge and was instrumental in establishing Camp Boothe Oakes near Sweetwater.             In the field of family history she published five books on genealogy for the Jones Whatley Hicks Stickney and Johnson lines.  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.             Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at North Funeral Home 242 Orange St. in Abilene on Wednesday June 29.  Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday June 30 in Elmwood Memorial Park 5750 U.S. Highway 277 S with memorial services following at 11:00 at St. Paul United Methodist Church 525 Beech Street .  Services will be officiated by the Rev. (Dr.) Eduardo Rivera and assisted by the Rev. Jon Stasney of Midland .             She was preceded in death by her parents her husband her only sister Fredericka Whatley McSweany and her son-in-law COL Henry K. Bass Jr.             Surviving family include her daughters Harriet Jane Jones Bass of Abilene and Elizabeth Kenan Jones Keyes (husband Griff Keyes) of Little Rock Arkansas.  In addition she has four grandchildren LTC Henry Morgan Bass (wife Lisa) of Christiansburg Virginia; LTC (Dr.) Charles Frederick Bass (wife Mary Kate) of Abilene; Mary Margaret Keyes of Little Rock; and Morgan Griffith Keyes (wife Jennifer) also of Little Rock.  She was the proud great-grandmother of Eric Henry Bass Ethan Spencer Bass Elizabeth Anne Keyes and Morgan McCall Keyes.  Also surviving are her niece Bettie Charles Findlay Kilgore (husband Russell Kilgore) of Fairhope Alabama her great-nephew Russell Kilgore Jr. and great-niece Burton Kilgore Prewitt.  Double first cousins include Mary Anne Whatley Berryman (husband Warren) of Colorado and Margaret Jean Whatley Guin (husband David) of Florida .             Pallbearers include Henry Bass Charles Bass Morgan Keyes Russell Kilgore Jr. Kirk Thaxton and the Rev.
