Mary Jane McCormick Smith died after a long illness on December 24 2012 in the presence of family and in the gentle care of the staff at the in-patient hospice of Hendrick Medical Center. A life-long resident of Abilene Jane served her community through her work at Abilene Independent School District and as an active volunteer in the B.O.B.S(Breakfast on Beech Street) through the First Christian Church of Abilene. She was born October 22 1947 to Polly and Ed McCormick both now deceased. She is survived by her husband David Smith son Jeff Smith of Abilene daughter Heather Cooke and granddaughter Alexandra Thornton both of Austin and her brother Jim McCormick of Washington state.
