Mary Kathryn Stout was born in Hammon Oklahoma September 25 1917 and died at the age of 90 on June 16 2008 in Abilene Texas. As a youngster Mary Kathryn found that writing out her name was too difficult and that she could get by with Mary K. which everyone called her until her death. She attended Oklahoma A & M now Oklahoma State University and graduated in 1939 with a degree in education. Sixty-nine years ago on August 5 1939 she married V.L. Stout. They had one son and one daughter. After graduation she taught school for a year until V. L. could graduate from college. After his graduation they moved to Fort Worth Texas where he worked for the Soil Conservation Service and she took care of their son Larry. In August of 1946 the family bought a 120 acre farm nother of Fort Worth between Justin and Rhome Texas. Their daughter Linda Kay Stout was born in 1947 and died 18 months later. Mrs. Stout taught one year at Boyd Elementary five years at Rhome Elementary and 12 years at Eagle Mountain Elementary. She loved teaching Second Grade. In 1972 she and her husband retired from the farm and moved to Lake Kiowa near Gainesville Texas then to Lolita Texas in 1992 and finally to Abilene Texas in 2002. She loved to play the piano and organ and often sang with various groups as they moved around the state. In the 1970's and 1980's she got into China painting and since that time has left painted trinkets wherever she lived. She made outstanding China dolls. She and her husband were long-time members of the Church of Christ. They were with the Rhome Church of Christ for about 23 years then the Broadway Church of Christ in Gainesville Texas for 17 years followed by about 10 years at the Vanderbilt Church of Christ and a few years at the Oakridge Church of Christ in Abilene. She was preceded in death by her parents Sidney Shults and Elsie Smithey Shults; her older brother Chauncy Smithey Shults; a younger brother Jack Dayle Shults; a younger sister Elsie Jo Shults Smith; her daughter Linda Kay Stout and her husband V.L. Stout. Mary K is survived by her son Larry G. Stout and his wife Karen. Two grandsons Richard Nathan Stout his wife Missy and their three children (Mrs. Stout's great-grandchildren) Nathan Michael Stout Blake Edward Stout and Trey Walker Stout. Robert Edward Stout and his wife Emily. Services will be Thursday June 19 at 2:00 P.M. at Oakridge Church of Christ officiating will be Ken Crow. Burial will be Sunday June 22 at Red Hill Cemetery in Hammon Oklahoma.
