Maurice S. Walters (Walt to all his friends) age 87 died September 11 2011 while in the hospital from cancer.   Visitation will be Wednesday September 14 th from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at North's Funeral Home 242 Orange Street .   Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday September 15 th at Evergreen Cemetery and will be presided by Steve Smith.     Maurice was born in Dillsburg PA on December 20 1923.   He joined the Air Force upon completion of high school and trained as a pilot for World War II.   Maurice served in Okinawa during the Korean War and when he retired from the Air Force in 1964 he went to work for the U.S. Post Office.   His family moved to Abilene in 1968.   Favorite pastimes were hunting fishing camping coin collecting antiques and gardening.   Many years he traveled to Idaho with his son Preston to hunt in the fall and his garden produce was shared with family and friends. The outdoors was a great love of his and he shared his passion for America's National Parks with his children.   Walt was a member of the Baker Heights Church of Christ and enjoyed being one of the 49ers participating in many potluck suppers.   Being interested in collecting coins he joined the Abilene and San Angelo Coin Clubs.   His wife Imogene Boothe Walters and his son Preston Maurice Walters preceded him in death.     He is survived by his two daughters Ruth Rios of Abilene Texas and Mayme Trumble of Belfast Maine and their spouses Mike Rios and William Trumble and his daughter-in-law Dawn McKalips Walters of Sumner WA .   Mr. Walters has four grandchildren Alissa Odum of Sumner WA Jonathan Trumble of Fort Collins CO Joshua Walters serving the U.S. Army in Iraq and Alison Paige Rios Abilene TX .
