Natalia "Nellie" Mireles Roman age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday January 17, 2025 and is now Home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Wake Service: 5-7 p.m. Thursday January 23, 2025 at North's Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 12:30 p.m. Friday January 24, 2025 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery She was born on November 13, 1941 in Brady, Texas, to Manuel Mireles and Natalia Gutierrez, the 13th of 13 children who grew up in a two bedroom home. She learned early the importance of family. As the baby of the bunch she was protected by her brothers and mothered by her sisters and abundantly loved by her parents. When she was a young girl she took care of her nieces and nephews and she adored them. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life; as a devout Christian, she lived her beliefs through acts of kindness, patience, generosity and an unwavering moral compass that guided her family. She was a longtime member of St. Francis. She was a Cursillista and took a mission trip to Chihuahua, Mexico. A devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She took great pride in her family. She was the heart of gatherings with music, food and dancing. She loved to dance especially to Tejano music. She loved to cook and bake. Known for her delicious enchiladas, Chile Rellenos, and green chicken enchiladas and the most delicious lemon meringue pie. Through the years she was employed at Eileen's Sewing Factory, St. Francis, College Heights Elementary, family business El Charro Mexican Restaurant/Ballroom, El Chico Mexican Restaurant, Texas Instruments and her most beloved job homemaker. Natalia married Jesus Barrera Jr. (1960-1991) in Abilene, Texas. They have three daughters, seven grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren together. She married Joe Doyle Roman of Baytown, Texas in 1999. They lived in Baytown, Texas and owned Roman's Boarding and Grooming for 10 years before retiring and moving back to Abilene where they built their dream home together. Natalia is preceded in death by grandsons Miguel Angel Allelo and David Devora. Son- in-law Jose Devora. Nine brothers and sisters and her parents Manuel and Natalia Mireles. She is survived by husband Joe Doyle Roman. Sister Minerva Gonzalez of Fredericksburg, sister Ninfa DeAnda and Tony of Irving and brother Leo and wife Virginia of San Antonio Daughter Maria Elena Devora-Portillo and her husband, Andy Portillo of Abilene, daughter Angela Rangel of Abilene, daughter, Linda Alma Allelo and her husband Juan Allelo, Jr. stepdaughter Mary Campbell of Baytown, as well as grandchildren Joey Devora and his wife Jennifer of Abilene, Laura Devora of Abilene, Jessica Rangel of Houston, Crystal Rangel of Abilene, Jon-Michael Allelo of Abilene and Jaclyn Natalia Allelo of Abilene. Nine great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Andrea Portillo and Karla Martinez for the special care they gave our mother.
