Nelson Colbert Sr. 72, of Abilene passed away Monday, January 22, 2024 in Abilene, TX. Funeral Services will be held Saturday January 27 2024 at 1pm at North's Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held Friday, January 26, 2024, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at North's Funeral Home. Interment will be held Monday January 29, 2024 at 11am at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors. Nelson was born June 11, 1951 in Rosebud, TX to Rachel Miligan and Johnny L. Colbert. Nelson received his primary education from Abilene public schools, graduating from Abilene High School in 1968. After High school he joined the United States Navy and served his country. After his honorable discharge from the Navy he returned to Abilene and he worked for McMurry University for many years. In his spare time he loved to watch tv, dancing, and most of all spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Nelson was preceded in death by parents Johnny L. Colbert, and Rachel Miligan-Colbert, brothers Johnny Lee Colbert, Ivery Cobert Eddie Colbert sisters; Juanita Colbert Williams, Billie L.. Colbert, Phyllis Colbert, and Claudette Colbert Watkins. Left to cherish his memories are: wife of 47 years Corine Colbert of Abilene, Children Nelson Colbert Jr. of Abilene, Kenson Colbert and wife Monica of Abilene, Etta Barnes of Abilene, Lisa Hopkins of Killeen, TX. brtoher Dock Eugene Colbert and wife Gwen of Abilene, sisters: Mary K. Colbert Campbell of Abilene, Willie Mae Colbert McGrigg and husband Anthony of Abilene, Allean Colbert-Malory and husband Will of of Round Rock TX, Mary Ann Colbert James of Longview, TX 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces nephews, extended family and many friends.
