The world lost a radiant soul far too soon in the early hours of Sunday morning, April 14, 2024. O'lea T. Hicks, a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, and friend, left us at the tender age of 19. Funeral services will be held Wednesday April 24, 2024 at 11am at North's Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5-7pm at North's Funeral Home. To her family, O'lea was more than just a relative; she was a source of joy and a beacon of kindness. Her laughter was infectious, and her smile could light up the darkest rooms. To her friends, she was a confidant, a source of laughter, and an endless reservoir of compassion. O'lea graduated from MacArthur High School in 2023. She was nominated in her prom court and was a decorated track star and basketball player. She loved anime, gaming, drawing, and painting with her friends. O'lea's ambitions were as vast as her heart. She was a published author of short stories and dreamed of becoming a forensic pathologist. Left to cherish her memories are mother Umesha Cooper of Abilene, father David Hicks of Irving, TX, siblings: Meosha Hammer, of Minnesota, Jaquincy Hammer of Minnesota, Obidiah Hammer of Minnesota, O'mar Hicks of Irving, Niece Moosi Hammer, aunt Charlena Williams of Abilene, uncle Stephen Hicks of Huntington West Virginia, Jacqueline Du'bose, uncle Woodrow Hicks Jr, of Hartsville South Carolina. Cousins Ex'zavia HIcks, Lula Hicks, Chasity HIcks, Danielle Rivers, Crystal Hicks, Kenyatta Hicks, Nasean HIcks, Shannon Du'Bose, Jacquetta Du'Bose, Jermaine Du'Bose, maternal grandfather Ronald Bronner, and a host of extended family and many friends. O'lea was preceded in death by aunt Delores Thomas, Aunt Melody Hicks, cousin Christopher Hicks, maternal grandmother Sharon Cooper, paternal grandparents, Lula H. Davidson, and Woodrow HIcks Sr. The sudden loss of O'lea has left a void in the hearts of those who knew her. As we come together to mourn her passing, we also celebrate the remarkable life she led. In her 19 years, Olea taught us the importance of kindness, community, and the power of love...period.
