Oscar ("Pichi") Gaytan Jr, 57, of Abilene passed away Monday December 26, 2022 at Hendrick Hospice Care after a short battle with liver cancer. Funeral Services will be held Monday January 2, 2022 at Redeemer Church of Abilene 3232 Grape St Abilene, TX at 11am. Under the direction of North's Funeral Home, with a cremation to fallow Oscar was born in El Paso, TX to Margarita Zarate and Oscar Gaytan Sr. He attended Bowie High School in El Paso. Oscar had a troubled youth and freely admitted that he made many wrong choices early in life. In 2002 he, in his own words, "hit the bottom" and responded to Gods call. He started reading the Bible and his life was radically transformed. Those who met him later in life were amazed at the change when he described his early days. In his later decades he was a man who loved Christ and served Him, devoting himself to helping others. His work ethic was an inspiration to all who knew him. He loved the outdoors, especially with friends. Hiking, canoeing, visiting local parks and cooking out were favorite activities. His kitchen skills were amazing and he shared his cooking freely. His favorite NFL teams were the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs. He was a good brother, uncle and friend to many. He will be truly missed and will never, ever, be forgotten. Oscar is survived by his brothers and sisters, Margarita Sandoval, Carlos Huertas, Alejandro Huertas and Sandra Gaytan all from El Paso, TX. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many, many, friends.
